June 11 The first two days of 2009 International Travel Expo (ITE) Hong Kong professional
days attracted 11000 industry and enterprises visitors from Asia, China and Hong Kong.
This year’s expo boasts 34 official delegations from nearly 45 countries and regions in
a total of about 600 exhibitors, covering 16000 square meters of exhibition space.
The new themes this year include healthcare and medical tourism pavilions. Other topics
include cruise, theme parks, cultural and ecological tourism.

2009 International Travel Expo Hong Kong took place from 11th to 14th this month. According
to Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), the Taiwan delegation is the largest
exhibiting country in the “Medical Tourism Area.” The expo kiosk is presented in the form
of“Taiwan Image Pavilion,”with the goal to aggressively develop the commercial opportunities
of medical tourism among Chinese people in China, Hong Kong and Macao. It is estimated that
the commercial opportunities of Asia’s medical tourism can amount to US$4.4 billion by 2012.
TAITRA projects that the diverse medical tourism products launched by the expo exhibitors
can trigger a wave of Hong Kong people coming to Taiwan for cosmetic and healthcare management activities.(2009/06/13 Central News Agency report)
